Delicious Cartmel makes the foodie grade once again

It doesn’t seem there’s an end to Cartmel, the unofficial foodie capital of Cumbria, being included in best foodie destinations in the national press. The latest is the Delicious Magazine Top 17 Must Visit Foodie Hot Spots in the UK.

The lists gives a brief roundup of the location as well as the key place to dine. It will then of course come as no surprise that L’Enclume is the tipped destination of choice. But Cartmel is far from just this 2 Michelin star restaurant, a complete village foodie revolution has taken over.

It could be said it all started nearly 25 years ago though when the first sticky toffee pudding was made by the Village Store and Post Office. From there the now world famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding was born gaining an audience across the globe. It can be found in shops and delis up and down the country and world along with other delicious and traditional British puddings.

Producers and high quality supplies can also be found within Unsworth’s Yard. This small yet highly picturesque yard close to Cartmel Priory is home to Unsworth’s Brewery where there is a tasting room, the Red Pepper & HOT Wines shop, The Bread Shed bakery and the award winning Cartmel Cheeses. In fact Cartmel Cheeses have recently been included in the FT’s 5 best cheese mongers in the UK.
